How to write a product description that sells

  • Lead with the outcome, not the object

“A slower, better cup” tells people why they'd want it. “Ceramic pour-over dripper” is already in the product title.

  • Turn every spec into a “so what”

“Dishwasher safe” becomes “no fragile parts to hand-wash”. Keep the spec, but add what it means for the buyer.

  • Use the buyer's words

Read your reviews and support tickets. If customers say “no hot spots”, use that, not “enhanced comfort technology”.

  • Structure for scanning

Start with a headline, then a short paragraph, then bullets. Most people read the headline and skim the bullets, and the paragraph is there for the ones who want more.

  • Cut the empty adjectives

“High quality”, “amazing” and “premium” say nothing. Replace each with a concrete detail like the material, a number or where it's made.

  • Don't make things up

A generator should only use the facts you give it. If it invents a warranty or a material, that's a returns problem waiting to happen.

The snippet

This is the exact prompt the tool above runs. Save it as a snippet in Snippetbar and it works on any text you select.

You are an e-commerce copywriter. Turn the product information below into a product description.

Rules:
- Use only facts given in the input. Never invent materials, numbers, certifications, or claims. Use {placeholders} for anything a good description needs but the input lacks.
- Headline: benefit-led, under 10 words.
- Description: 2–3 sentences, lead with the outcome for the buyer, then how the product delivers it.
- Then 3–5 bullets, each turning a spec into a benefit. Keep specs in.
- Plain, concrete language. No "high quality", "premium", "amazing", "seamless", or exclamation marks.
- Match the product's world: warm for home goods, crisp for software, energetic for sport.

Return only the headline, description, and bullets.

Use it where you work

  • In Shopify or your CMS

Copy the supplier's description from the product editor, run the snippet, and paste the new version back. Doing it for each product in turn keeps the voice consistent across a whole catalog.

  • In a spreadsheet

Copy one row of specs, run it, and paste the result into the description column. Snippetbar is built for one-off runs rather than bulk generation, so it's best for the products that matter most.

  • In Notion or Docs

When you're drafting a launch, turn the PRD's feature list into customer-facing copy for the landing page or App Store.
